Gentlemen:

I refer to previous correspondence relative

to a seizure of 443 tins of opium on the SS

EASTERN FRINCE in Lecember 1925, and which opium bore labels with the word "lacao" thereon. It was the

theory that the opium had been obtained and shipped from the Island of Lacao, which is under Fortugese jurisdiction.

The matter was taken up with the Consul General of fortugal, and I enclose a letter from him dated the 10th instant, with which he encloses photographs taken from tins exclusively used by the concessionary of opium produced in the Island of Macao, and which the Consul General contends differs materielly from the tins seized here, and it is his belief that the tins of opium marked "Macao", and under seizure, were never produced in that island

I submit these photographs and sample tin for your information.

Respectfully,

(sd.) H. C. Stuart

Assistant Collector.

Enclosure.
